TROPICAL-BANNER

Tropical couldn’t be a hotter topic in the 2016 world of summer interior design and room inspiration. This style of decorating, much like summertime itself, is all about fun, which is why we are bringing this article of room design ideas to you in July – the perfect month for some vibrant gaiety, both in your life and in your home.

The tropical trend has become increasingly popular over the past few months, with the celebratory and flamboyant colours taking a firm hold in the realms of both fashion and interior design, and it is very seldom that these two worlds follow the same trends at the same time. One possible explanation for this is that both industries have seen the scope for creativity and diversity with this style; exotic prints such as pineapples, birds and botanical patterns abound within the tropical world, and it is this world we at Roman Blinds Direct are helping you to create, today.

These room design ideas work well in any type of home, particularly in open-plan interiors. The larger capacity of an open-plan living space gives you the freedom to take tropical to even higher planes and get an exotic motif flowing freely throughout your entire home.

Homes that have conservatories are perfect for a tropical decor, inviting the outside inside. There’s no better way to get your interior back to nature than to emphasise the true nature that lies just outside your windows.

One of the major advantages of tropical interiors is that you are able to mix and match an enormous assortment of colours in one room, and it will still work. To fashion a truly tropical room, our interior stylists suggest keeping three of your walls in a chic base colour, such as Lilac Grey; this will help to keep your room grounded, while also accentuating the exuberance of the brighter colours.

Style It

The fourth wall, which our stylists recommend should be the largest wall in the room, is your canvas for getting creative. This wall should be painted with a vivacious colour like orange or bright green to create the room’s focal point. Lighter shades of Royal Blue or teal will also have a similar effect. Complete this with some cushions in a matching colour to add a final, inspired touch.

Alternatively, a tropical wallpaper pattern will produce equally exciting results. We recommend using colourful and stimulating designs such as pineapples or, perhaps, a jungle print that features exotic birds and plenty of greenery.

For your roman blinds, our stylists have selected a variety of some of the most attractive and vibrant patterns to ever grace Roman Blinds Direct’s website. To add a tastefully tropical tint, we propose investing in Clarke & Clarke’s ultra-chic Ananas Noir. This patterned roman blind is printed onto a soft linen fabric and comes with an understated pineapple print, which lends an exotic lilt without being overpowering or brash. A cool and contemporary design, this blind would be perfect for teenagers’ bedrooms and living rooms.

Clarke & Clarke Flamingo Linen is another subdued tropical option for those who seek only the most sophisticated roman blinds. Flamingos are synonymous with exhibitionism and elegance, and these traits are represented in this patterned roman blind.

Another low-key option is Prestigious’ Manilla Evergreen roman blind. While still suited to a tropical decorating scheme, this blind integrates softer shades of green, printed onto a cream background to fashion an altogether softer aesthetic. This pattern would also produce stunning results as a set of curtains thanks to the simple botanical design, which looks wonderful when hung all the way down to the floor. Complement these with golden curtain poles to produce an elegant and sophisticated motif.

Other gold accessories like metal floor lamps and furniture with gold finishes, for example metal-frame sofas and cabinets with brass handles, are striking accompaniments to the gold curtain poles. This will provide a regal and refined counterpart to the tropical ambience.

Aside from Lilac Grey, there’s still plenty of room to utilise other colours from Pantone’s 2016 spring colour palette within a tropical decor. Fiesta Red is a hot tropical choice from Pantone’s colour palette, lending a spirited playfulness to any room in the home.

Rose Quartz and Serenity, Pantone’s two colour choices for this year, have their place in a tropical home. iLiv Paradiso Delft, for example, is a botanical pattern which incorporates gentler shades of green, pink and blue. These pastel colours are highly reminiscent of Rose Quartz and Serenity, helping you to fashion a motif that is both vibrant and on-trend. This blind would be perfectly set-off with some bolder strokes of colour used in other areas of a room, such as in artwork for the wall and with complementary cushions. A bowl of fresh and colourful fruits like pineapples, oranges, grapes and apples – aside from being extraordinarily healthy – also work as tropical complements to the decor, too!

However, if you wish to embrace the full tang of tropical, then a fabric like Fryetts Funchal Summer is more up your street. Watercolour prints are very much in vogue throughout the year and come in all imaginable shades, from fruity and effervescent colours to gentler, more relaxing tones. Funchal Summer is a celebratory splash of colour into your home; joyous yellows and pinks contrast elegantly with the oceanic blues and lilacs to create an engaging and lively patterned roman blind that is sure to stand out.

It is patterned roman blinds like Fryetts Funchal Summer and Prestigious Borneo Mango that embody all the fun and vivacity of tropical. In fact, Borneo Mango represents this flamboyant and exciting aesthetic even more, incorporating an even wider spectrum of bright colours into one fabric. Multi-coloured palm leaves of various blues, greens and yellows thrive across this fabric, while deeper reds and oranges juxtapose these shades, beautifully.
