January can be a rather dull and depressing month, especially when it comes to the old bank balance. If you’re feeling anything like us at Roman Blinds Direct, you’ll be eagerly awaiting the beginning of February, ready to wave goodbye to the month of blues and look forward to warmer, wealthier times.

But while you may be tightening the purse strings in order to make up for an extravagant Christmas period, there’s no reason why you can’t refresh your home, too. Revamping needn’t cost the world, especially with our list of quick, easy and cheap tips!

1. Update your shades

Swap old lampshades for new, fresh designs. You can pick up shades for reasonable prices in a variety of home ware shops, or if you really want to save the pennies, upcycle current shades by covering with new fabric or adding

 2. Freshen up your window frames

Nothing transforms a room quite like a fresh pair of curtains or a new blind. Discover a huge range of competitively priced window dressings here, and again, if you really want to scrimp and save, simply refresh by adding new accessories. Swap your tiebacks, change a pole or even add some decorate details, such as piping, beading and tassels.

3. Do an accessory edit

Too many accessories can make a room feel cluttered, so start off by clearing all of your old bits and bobs. Reintroduce them to the room thoughtfully, taking care to not overcrowd the space. Stick to a limited colour scheme, but don’t be afraid to add a few pops of colour – bright glass ornaments and funky photo frames are a clever way to do this without being too over the top.

4. Artistic reshuffle

Take down any paintings, prints or wall art in your home, and move each to a different spot. It’ll be like seeing them for the first time! You can also switch around frames, and group pieces together in different arrangements for a really fresh, contemporary look.

5. It’s the small things

Little details make huge differences, so choose unusual coasters, interesting frames, stylish vases and vibrant indoor plants and flowers. These needn’t cost a great amount, and you can guarantee that your local charity shop is sure to have some lovely little pieces in stock.
