How not to be boring

Thu 30 Jul 2015 James Nuttall

Can you believe that we have already come to the end of July? This is a depressing thought for us at Roman Blinds Direct; despite the obvious fact that summer is more than halfway through, it also sees the end of National Anti-Boredom Month.

Yep, you heard us right, this July has been National Anti-Boredom Month. We aren’t too sure where this holiday originated, but we are pretty sure that July was selected because of the (assumed) sunny weather, the summer holidays and general jolly atmosphere that is present at this time of year. A good time to not be bored, wouldn’t you say? And naturally, this is the perfect time to add some spice to your home – there’s nothing worse than a boring decor!

As a provider of the finest quality blinds and curtains in the business, we at Roman Blinds Direct know how to jazz up a home, from the windows to the rafters. Here are a few of our tips for ensuring your home isn’t boring… ever.

Seat by the window?

If you have a rather large windowsill in your home, there’s no reason why you can’t transform it into a completely different function; a window seat is a beautifully chic touch to any and all interiors that can accommodate one. All it takes is a pillow or small duvet for the windowsill, topped off with a few stylish cushions, which we also make!

Spruce up your lighting

Above is a photograph of the chandeliers that hang proudly in the lobby of the Metropolitan Opera House in Manhattan. We aren’t saying you have to be so extravagant with your lighting as the above, although feel free – it sure is pretty, isn’t it? However, a less than conventional type of hanging light, or even a fancy lampshade, can work wonders at giving your home an offbeat and intriguing appeal, especially at night when they will be in full-glow.

A balcony pool

Okay, a pool in your balcony may not be everyone’s personal preference. Indeed, it is more than likely that the majority of you reading this will not even have a balcony, but for the lucky few of you who do, a balcony pool may be just the thing to liven up your life. Can you think of a more invigorating way to kick off your day than by taking a dive into your own pool as you watch the sunrise? Equally, what could be better than to take a dip in the evening as you watch the city come alive below you?

The last one is an obvious one, but nonetheless important. A hammock bed is a swingin’ good idea if your home is in need of some spicing up, you can’t do much better than investing in a snazzily coloured hanging bed.

Of course, all of these neat ideas mean nothing without a decent roman blind hanging in one of your windows! Thankfully, we are here to pull your chestnuts out of the fire, as ever, by housing an unbelievable amount of big and bold patterned roman blinds and curtains. You can even turn these patterns into cushions. Don’t forget to add the final chic finishing touches to your new pad with some fabulous new soft furnishings!
