What happens when geeks get jobs…

Darth Vader Blind

We’re a blinds company based in Yorkshire, and we got an unexpected surprise when we offered a huge number of young people their first step on the employment ladder.

Interior Goods Direct has taken on more young apprentices than any other business in the area, as well as welcoming a large number of youngsters from a local school on work experience.

We offered several the chance to design new blinds for two of our websites; Roman Blinds Direct and Roller Blinds Direct, but we weren’t prepared for the results!

“I’ll admit that I was expecting something more traditional.” said Mark Small, our Managing Director. “We have thousands of materials and designs to take inspiration from, so I was expecting to see something like those, but the brief was to create designs that they could envisage in their own homes… so I guess they went and did just that!”

“To be honest, I had to have some of the designs explained to me. There looks to be a lot of inspiration taken from memes, films and games. And I’ve been told that I’m not ‘with it’ enough to really appreciate them.”

“The real question now is do we actually produce these blinds for sale? Does anyone want a picture of Darth Vader looming over them from the window? Or a Minecraft or Skyrim inspired blind?”

“I know there’s at least some interest – from a few people in our offices who won’t leave me alone about these blinds! They want them for their own homes.”

So, would you want any of these designs in your home? Should we go ahead and manufacture them for sale?

They are fricking awesome. Assuming prices aren’t ridiculous, these would be a definite purchase. Amazing.

Well done to the young apprentices – great to see individuals thinking outside the box with fresh designs. I think they would be very popular.

I’m sure the kids will love them – not sure about Mum and Dad though! As long as they’re not too expensive, so when they get tired of them they can be replaced! Well done.

I love the Darth Vader one !! Although I would want it in blue. I have been looking also for a scenic view for my large conservatory window blinds.

Could not find a price
Do not want to get a sample without knowing the price .
Why do you not realise its price that makes me look and the start price means nothing

Hi Geraldine,

We have not yet put them into production, so cannot give a price at this stage.

If we go ahead with them, a price will be specified.

All the best!

I spent nearly two weeks searching for geek inspired blinds before giving up and having to buy a boring ‘sensible’ blind. Would’ve loved one of these or something similar if available at a reasonable price. Get them made.

Anyone know if you can get a blind with the periodic table on?

These are great. we have been looking for blinds recently and the ranges are a lot more “traditional” than we would like. These are statement blinds and although I wouldn’t choose one of these for my living room I certainly would choose them for my sons bedrooms! We want to see more graphic designs. something bolder and braver than the norm please!
