We’ve Been Making For Charity

We never pass up on an opportunity to help the less fortunate here at Roman Blinds Direct. We have made many donations to charity in the past to various good causes, doing our bit to help out in any way we can.

However, this time around we are exceptionally proud of ourselves – or rather, our seamstresses – for their generosity and charitable nature. In the past few weeks, our girls on the manufacturing floor have been staying late and coming in early, completely voluntarily, to make syringe driver bags for local hospices and hospitals.

Because we manufacture over 100 roman blinds and curtains every single day at Roman Blinds Direct, each day sees an enormous amount of excess fabric going unused – sometimes as much as 80 metres a week! Last month, we finally decided that it was time we put this excess material to good use. Sure, we’ve donated the fabric to good causes before, and also made roman blinds and curtains for various hospices and other charitable organisations, but this time we decided to do something different.

Working with the non-profit organisation, Making For Charity, who are dedicated to improving the lives of others, our seamstresses have set to under their own steam to create these syringe driver bags out of our off-cuts. For those of you who haven’t heard of them before, syringe drivers are most frequently used for pain management, in particular for cancer patients. A needle is placed under the skin, and the driver, which is about the size of a pencil case, administers the required painkiller. Driver bags are created so that the patient can carry the apparatus around with them in more comfort.

We are very proud to say that our bags have already been donated to the Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre and the Children’s Cancer Outreach Team at the LGI Infirmary. Nonetheless, we don’t plan on stopping any time soon, and there are many more organisations out there who would benefit from these donations. Are you a member of a charity or organisation that could use these syringe driver bags to help others? If the answer is yes, then please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Roman Blinds Direct stocks a diverse and colourful range of different fabrics, meaning that our off-cuts come in all kinds of patterns and colours; this has allowed us to make such a varied selection of different bags, which will, hopefully, uplift a great deal of people in need.

Julie Taylor of Making for Charity came to visit us yesterday to take a look at all the bags we’ve made for herself. Even the Huddersfield Examiner stopped by to take some snaps of the ladies with their finished bags.

The first batch of bags went to Macmillan today for the Oncology department of St James’ Hospital, and we are looking to donate to a great many hospices and hospitals in the local area.

We’d like to take this opportunity to say just how proud we are of our sewing ladies, who have done this completely off their pwn backs. Well done, ladies!
