Pantone Colour Of The Year 2018 Predictions

Mon 20 Nov 2017 Amy Kilvington

Pantone’s next Colour of the Year will be announced next month, and we’e excited to discover the shade that’ll reign supreme in 2018. There are conflicting opinion across our team, but one thing’s for sure: following the success of Greenery across the board, Pantone’s colour of 2018 has big shoes to fill!

Pantone Colour of the Year

Pantone has been selecting a Colour of the Year since 2000. From Cerulean Blue and Fuchsia Rose, to Radiant Orchid and Marsala, the end of every preceding year has seen the appointment of a shade to represent the coming 12 months.

Pantone’s focal colour also comes accompanied with numerous complementary palettes. These are the colour trends that will eventually make their way onto the catwalk and the high street, feeding our growing appetites for unusual colour combinations, and allowing us to experiment more freely both in our homes and with the clothes we wear.

Executive Director of Pantone, Leatrice Eiseman, has revealed the colour combinations we should expect in 2018. It’s anticipated that metallics will continue to flourish, gradually moving across the palette from occasional accents to steady neutrals. Intense colours will also become more popular, including hot pink, lime green and bright turquoise. Earthy tones of red and orange also occur throughout the trends, along with a soft dose of greys, taupes and pink. But which shade will lead the way as Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2018? Let’s discuss…

Purple

We believe that purple is a strong contender for Pantone’s 2018 crown. The shade we envisage is true purple; a vibrant, even balance of red and blue, the sort that you’d associate with modernity, mysticism and dance music. Our reasoning for purple is owed to the current reinvigorated wave of feminism, coupled with our desire to try new things and reach beyond the traditional neutrals and primaries.

Teal

Our interior specialists have a feeling that teal could also top the charts. This year Marrs Green was voted the world’s favourite colour, a punchy and versatile shade that’s a demonstration of our desire to reconnect with nature and escape the stresses and uncertainties of modern day life. This strong teal with dark undertones is the perfect choice for Pantone’s colour of 2018.

Terracotta

A shade of terracotta is another likely contender. Again, these earthy colours looks towards the natural landscape as we turn away from a fast-paced digital world and embrace the environment. Terracotta tones are the perfect accompaniment to the warm woody textures and colours that are continuing to grow in popularity. Pantone’s Colour of the Year should always work well with it’s trending palettes, and it’s safe to say that this toasty tone is seriously versatile.

Yellow

Finally, we believe that yellow could very well be announced as Pantone’s colour of 2018. We expect to see a paler shade of yellow; this tone hasn’t been around for a while, and there’s a strong chance that Pantone could choose to reintroduce it. Yellow is an energising colour full of hope and inspiration, which is very much needed in the current social climate. It also offers a nice dose of sunshine, something that we lacked in 2017!
