For an on-trend motif that allows both diversity and creativity, you can’t do any better than taking some room design ideas from the Brazilian decorating style.

Brazilian room inspiration is a fantastically stylish way to incorporate a wide-ranging palette of colour, while also combining an eclectic mix of accessories and furniture, to fashion a unique, vintage theme.

We encourage you to mix and match your colours and patterns within this motif. Brazilian’s colour palette is very similar to the Tropical theme, which we educated you on in a previous article; bold colours, properly incorporated, can bring your interior into a whole new realm of vitality. Paint rather than wallpaper is preferred, allowing you to include more than one colour in a room and also giving you the opportunity to change your colours at a later date, with minimal hassle.

We recommend neutral yet warm tones for your walls; chocolatey browns and gentle creams for instance will act as your base colours to style a mix of bolder colours around. As for your roman blinds, they should be a vivid and jubilant-coloured fabric, such as Prestigious Jaipur Emerald, a deep shade of emerald green that is just perfect for adding a charismatic and tropical tone to your home. Another quirky choice would be Prestigious Jazz Flame, which provides a snazzy and striking focal point in a Brazilian decor.

Do your best to create an organic feel in your Brazilian home to get your decor back to nature; instead of carpets, allow the wooden floorboards to make an appearance, especially if your boards are a dark wood like walnut or mahogany. Contrast this deep brown with a white rug to add a chic juxtaposition. Rather than buying instant coffee in a jar, purchase a sack of fresh coffee beans and allow the sacks to lend a rustic and organic complement to your Brazilian kitchen.

Potted plants further enhance the natural feel, as well as administering some calming greenery to your colour scheme. A beautiful mahogany dinner table, contrasted by chairs in varying, vibrant colours like reds and yellows, is another inspired touch to make your Brazilian motif an engaging and colourful affair.

Rattan furniture is a big must in a Brazilian decor; incorporate wicker chairs and stools to fashion a rural and vintage room. Wicker lightshades, laundry baskets and other accessories will amplify the rural feel. Contrast your rattan furniture with colourful and contrasting fabrics in other areas of your decorating, such as the sofa on our Brazilian mood board, as well as Clarke & Clarke’s Izapa Citrus roman blind.

Subtle injections of softer blues, like the iLiv Scandi Birds Capri cushions for sale at Roman Blinds Direct, will lend a moment of calm to your interior, providing a soothing centrepiece to this miscellany of colour.

Accessorise with vintage ornaments and works of art. Animal statues, particularly ones of exotic birds like toucans, parrots and cockatoos, provide a tribal and striking visual, while still looking extravagant and opulent. If you would rather feature these exotic birds in another way, bold artwork and photograph canvases also work wonders at bestowing sophistication and colour to a room; artisan-themed murals will have a very similar effect.

Brass and gold are cordial tones to include within Brazilian interiors, and should be incorporated subtly throughout the room. Brass finishes complete the classic look; brass handles on your doors, drawers and cabinets give a vintage charm to your decor without being overpowering. Golden accessories and ornaments, when used sparingly, gift your rooms with an elegant and affluent touch that is very much in-line with a classic Brazilian decor.
