A little local thank you

We like to do our bit for charity here at Roman Blinds Direct. We recently ran a campaign on our site, and across our sister sites, in an effort to raise money for the Newcastle-based children’s charity, Tiny Lives.

However, we also believe in helping out local causes, and our most recent donation went towards aiding the Grange Moor Brass Band, literally based across the road from the industrial estate on which our premises stand, where we manufacture all our roman blinds.

Roman Blinds Direct is situated in the tiny yet picturesque West Yorkshire village of Grange Moor. There’s definitely a ‘Sleepy Hollow’ element to this sparse landscape, but we don’t care – we are surrounded by gorgeous countryside, with a rich heritage.

The GMBB, for example, was founded as far back as 1854, with the first known contest result for the band being in 1889 at the Copley Contest. In the in intervening 161 years, the band has gone from strength to strength; in the 1970’s it won first place in no less than seven competitions, achieving a second place in another seven competitions. They continue to have a packed calendar of events lined up, from local benefits to school concerts.

Roman Blinds Direct was delighted to make a donation to this local stalwart within the community, and to our delight, they made contact to tell us how the money has been spent:  “The money was used to buy a complete set of music stands and also to repair some of our older instruments, this was so that the younger members of our recently formed starter band for the children of Grange Moor could start to learn to play with decent instruments.

“The starter band is taught by our musical director, Dr Val Hope, as is the senior band. The starter band is now playing very well, and is regularly attended by about 12 to 14 very young children; this would have been very difficult, if not impossible, without your company’s help, and for this we are very grateful. Once again, we thank you very much.”
