Styling Your Windows: The Bedroom Edit

Welcome to the very first article in our Styling Your Windows series – The Bedroom Edit.

In the article published today on our main blog, we explained to you exactly why roman blinds are the ideal window furnishing for bedrooms, covering both the visual and practical attributes, which make them perfect for those who want the best night’s sleep, in an Elysian atmosphere.

However, we are looking at the bigger picture in this article. This page is here to inspire you, and we intend to do just that. This Bedroom Edit will cover every aspect of the bedroom, not just which blind is best for the room, but how to create a modern decor, incorporating all the latest trends and colours. We are also very lucky, because in our very first Style Edit we have the advice of two fantastic interior design experts, who are furnishing us with some brilliant tips.

We at Roman Blinds Direct believe that a bedroom should be a sanctuary, where you feel free to relax and unwind after any day, in comfort and privacy. It is this look we are going to help you to style, today. Our advice isn’t going to focus on one particular style, we intend to cover a multitude of trends, ensuring that our readers have plenty of options for their own bedrooms.

Naturally, roman blinds are a must in the bedroom, but for during the day, voiles will provide a low-key level of privacy, while still allowing light into the room.

[ezcol_1half] Colour plays a pivotal role in creating a relaxing atmosphere, and Sam Hood – Founder and Creative Director of Amara – recommends using cooler shades for your bedroom: “Look to using a cool and calming colour pallet to aid a restful night’s sleep. Scandi style décor is perfect for a bedroom. The cool colour pallet is ideal when trying to create an inviting space. Whether you prefer plain or printed bedding, look to choose sheets in shades which complement and not clash.

“Greys teamed with either dusky pinks, citrus limes or yellow tones work beautifully together. Lighting is a really important part of your bedroom décor. Make sure you choose window dressing which allows you to block out the natural light when sleeping but complements your overall look during the day. Bedside lamps are also really key. Pick something which not only looks stylish, but also gives a soft light.”

There are also more artistic colours to choose from if you favour something a little more artistic, like Heather or Duck Egg; these shades are gentle on the eye and have a calming effect that will work to soothe you after a long day. The correct type of lighting is also paramount to fashioning a peaceful and lulled sleeping environment. New York interior designers, Decor Aid, have these suggestions: “Use sconces and table lamps, preferably with dimmers, to create soft lighting. Refrain from using overhead lighting which have a harsh light and creates shadows.

“Mix classic elements with lacquer or cool lighting to modernize a more traditional space. We recommend adding pieces slowly and curating the assortment. The pieces have a story and become more meaningful. Buying everything at once feels forced and can be expensive. This way you are able to invest in more special pieces and make less mistakes.”

Potted plants lend a natural and elegant complement to the serene atmosphere. Decor Aid recommend a particular type of plant for bedrooms: “Succulents are replacing traditional house plants. They are lush and beautiful and are desert cactus, thus forgiving should you forget to water them.”

[ezcol_1half]To enhance the natural overtones, we recommend dark brown furniture, such as Walnut bedside tables and chest of drawers. Dark shades of wood are warm and intriguing additions to the

bedroom, highlighting the earthy tones of the room. Carpets will generate a literal and visual warmth, making a room feel cosy and comfy, and you can coordinate this with the other colours used in your interior. However, you can contrast this with wooden floorboards for a rustic, minimalist look if you prefer. Floorboards will add a simple, back-to-nature look to your bedroom, and it is very easy to style coordinate the rest of your decor with the wood shade.[/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]beige400 beige-room-colours[/ezcol_1half_end]

A Classic French look in the bedroom is both calming and sophisticated. Soft shades, such as lilac, will enrich your decor, while also injecting a touch of femininity into the room, especially when teamed with shades of white and sky blues. Lilac Grey is a member of Pantone’s 2016 colour palette, and we wrote a feature on how best to use this colour in a previous article – the bedroom is the ideal room to feature this fabulous base colour.

Candles, along with vintage ornaments and furniture, will easily create a classically stylish motif, while floral patterns, which could be found on wallpaper, or even a floral roman blind, will help you to achieve a classic English Countryside look.

Classic French is a timeless look in the home, but if you favour a more modern aesthetic, the subtle incorporation of chromes and metals, such as silver picture frames and mirrors will incorporate a contemporary glimmer to bring the room into the 21st century.

Finally, just to add that extra touch of luxury and opulence, we highly recommend a selection of silk and velvet fabrics, for example, a velvet fabric for your roman blind or silk sheets for your bed spread. This will bestow a classic elegance to your already fabulous motif. Let’s not forget that we are able to manufacture cushions out of the same fabric as your roman blinds, allowing you to fashion a harmoniously coordinated motif.

Now that you have perfected your bedroom, surely you will be keen to make a start on the rest of your home… we can help you there! But you’ll have to be patient and wait until next month, when we will be bestowing our advice once again in The Living Room Edit.
