Soft Pop is an intelligent take on the traditionally twee. With its surprising combinations of form and colour, it reinvents a stereotypically feminine style into a cool, androgynous aesthetic. A cute yet discerning revival of kitsch interiors, Soft Pop boasts a range of eye-catching elements that make for a truly exciting look.

This lively style presents plenty of fresh home decorating ideas. Sweetened pastels can be grounded by simple whites and greys, or contrasted by brighter, bolder shades like marigold and deep magenta. Colour blocking is taken to the next level, with unusual tone-on-tones highlighting Soft Pop’s youthful pluckiness.

Simple and friendly structures are showcased in these pleasant shades, with finishes and textures doing most of the talking. Powder coating and chalky effects are contrasted by high gloss accents, while a resurgence of rubbery textures exudes an Art Deco vibe. Slick, hard surfaces such as plastic, glass and resin are also juxtaposed by soft foams and supple silicones.

The Soft Pop aesthetic provides the cosy nostalgia of kitsch with a smattering of spritely dynamism. Its voluminous shapes supply an airy feel, with padded and quilted furnishings continuing to channel this pillowy softness. Sugary treats are the catalyst for many of Soft Pop’s features; glazed concrete floors recall the texture of boiled sweets, plump white structures resemble marshmallows, and candy pink accessories remind us of bubble gum and milkshakes.

While desserts play a significant role in the Soft Pop aesthetic, busy florals and ditsy patterns can also be seen rushing to the forefront. These exciting patterns are showcased in shades of fondant pink, cool blue, custard and peppermint, punctuated by white highlights and black outlines.

Stripes, swirls and spots are involved throughout wallpaper and tiling patterns, ensuring that each edge of a space is stylised. Inspiration is also drawn from contemporary graphic design, with suggestions emojis providing a cheeky twist. Fringes, trims, bows and ribbons offer girlish adornments, while beads and pearls transform furniture into jewellery for the home.
