Greenery: Pantone Colour Of The Year

Tue 28 Mar 2017 Amy Kilvington

Pantone’s colour of 2017 is Greenery, a zesty shade of yellow-green that offers life, light, and a deep connection to nature. A symbol of rejuvenation and revitalization, Greenery is the perfect colour for spring, the season of new beginnings.

Greenery is vibrant and experimental, representing our need for change and our desire to explore. It is symbolic of flourishing foliage and the great outdoors, encouraging us to step outside and enjoy nature’s favourite shade. Pantone explain that it pushes us to oxygenate and rejuvenate; the more we submerge in our hectic modern lives, the more we’ll innately crave the beauty and freshness of the natural world.

Made up of blue and a heavy dose of yellow, Greenery boasts complexity and depth. Unlike its primary forerunners, green tends to spend the majority of its time on the periphery. Now, it is being pulled ahead of red, yellow and blue, accepting its spot as Pantone’s protagonist for the year.

There are plenty of different ways to incorporate Greenery into your home, whether that be through glassware, ceramics, soft furnishings, or the simple introduction of plants. These quick and easy methods are ideal for those that want to inject a touch of Greenery without too much fuss. Of course, if your space is due a full-scale overhaul for the season, you’ll also be delighted to know that Greenery can be worked into some of this year’s big interior trends. Find out more below…

Folk Art

The Folk Art trend takes inspiration from cultural motifs from across the globe. Eastern paisleys, European flourishes and tribal patterns are combined with block geometrics and bold florals, creating a look that expresses the intrigue of cultural identities, whilst maintaining a soft, modern playfulness. Flashes of Greenery occur throughout many Folk Art styles, contributing a natural freshness to otherwise contrived patterns, as well as providing a friendly base for strong graphics to sit upon.

Scandi

Scandi styles are showing no sign of slowing down this season. For springtime, Baltic-inspired interiors enjoy a fresh approach, with florals and geometrics taking to the forefront. The new Scandi is all about colour and cheer; patterns are bold, shapes are clean, and typical shades include medium blues, bright reds, sunny yellows and pleasant greens. A trend that is traditionally marked by bright whites and natural wood tones is enjoying a pop of colour and a child-like charm for SS17, and Greenery is the perfect accompaniment.

Jungle

No other shade lends itself more perfectly to this year’s Jungle theme. A darker, more grown-up version of 2016’s Tropical trend, Jungle offers us wild and whimsical opportunities for our home decor. Consider exotic florals, eclectic prints and bold jewel tones, along with zoological influences in the form of animal prints and feathers. It goes without saying that green plays a key role in this theme, so incorporating Greenery is simple, be that in the way of foresty shades, botanical prints or real plants.

1920s

This season’s Art Deco trend continues our long-standing love affair with 1920s glamour. Sumptuous velvets and shining silks take the lead, exhibiting shades of blush pink, sophisticated grey and classic cream. Marble and brass contribute refined details, while soft curving patterns maintain femininity. Amp up the luxe look this season by introducing striking accents, like a bold geometric print or metal ornaments. You can also include contrasting soft furnishings in shades of purple, deep teal or bright green.
