In last week’s Colour Report, we brought you Airy Blue – the autumn counterpart to one of Pantone’s spring selections and Colours of the Year, Serenity. Today, it is time to meet the autumn adaptation of Pantone’s other Colour of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz: introducing Dusty Cedar.

Whereas Rose Quartz was the perfect shade for fashioning an airy and light tone within your home, evoking images of spring, fresh flowers and dazzling summer sunsets, Dusty Cedar’s duty is to bring the depth. This shade represents the deep pink maple leaves that rustle around on the forest floor during October and November; it emanates the glow of a dusky autumn sunset, adding an earthy substance to your decor that Rose Quartz’s weightless aesthetic cannot.

Similarly, Dusty Cedar radiates a warming and friendly tone throughout a room, compared to Rose Quartz’s cool vibes. This pink tone exudes a welcoming radiance that is spectacularly stunning both as a base colour for a room or when used as an accent colour. It can be coordinated with a wide selection of other shades in Pantone’s Fall 2016 collection to style a smorgasbord of motifs.
Incorporate wooden furniture, particularly dark woods, to bring a warmth to the room which also puts you in touch with nature; wooden sideboards, drawers and cabinets are perfect additions to a Dusty Cedar decor.

Carpets instead of floorboards or tiles are preferred, particularly carpets in neutral shades such as grey or oatmeal. Not only will a carpet provide a practical use of helping to bring more warmth and comfort to a home, a neutral tone will only draw ones eye to the deep pinks that grace your rooms.

Lavish your walls with a base colour such as Warm Taupe. Another earthy tone from Pantone’s Fall 2016 palette, this shade of light brown will add a dimension of mystery and chic rurality. This luxurious look should be complemented with long, flowing curtains, and our interior designers recommend gifting your interior with the Dusty Cedar shade found in Prestigious Rivoli Rose Dust, found in the Winter Jewels section of our five current Winter Collections. These curtains should adorn gold or brass poles to lend a subtle, classic completion. Our sister site, Poles Direct, stocks a vast selection of bespoke curtain poles to suit your taste.

Your lighting doesn’t need to be as opulent as the chandelier in our room inspiration image, but silver or gold lighting would be an ideal complement to your curtain poles, striking a powerful equilibrium between modern and classic. Tastefully administer some gold accessories into the room, like gold table lamps, candlestick holders and objet d’art to decorate your surfaces to enhance the sophisticated ambience.

The inclusion of wood and metal can be used to fashion either a Classic French or Scandi-inspired motif in your home, giving you plenty of scope to style and re-style around Dusty Cedar, for years to come.

Contrast these colours with the darker tone of Riverside blue, which can be brought into your room inspiration by including chairs in navy blue tones. A variety of cushions in differing gifts and eclectic diversity to the room, preventing it from appearing bland or dull. One or two cushions in Pantone’s emerald shade of Lush Meadow will punctuate a stylishly stark contrasting colour into your Dusty Cedar decor. A cushion in Pantone’s Bodacious purple tone will have a similar effect, interspersing some brash femininity among the more subdued colours.
Don’t forget that, for the duration of the autumn and winter months, Roman Blinds Direct is offering a free upgrade to thermal lining on all our curtains and roman blinds, helping to keep your home cosier than ever!

Tune into our Colour Report next week, when we will be focusing our room design ideas on the hot shade of Spicy Mustard.
