The interior stylists here at Roman Blinds Direct have been positively bursting with excitement for the day we get to unleash our room design ideas for Sharkskin. It may seem unusual to be so excited about a grey colour, but we have been absolutely swimming with room inspiration for Sharkskin since our Autumn – Winter Weekly Colour Report series began, and now we can finally reveal our tips.

Sharkskin is a cool, modern colour, possibly the most versatile shade we have showcased this year. While grey often gets an unfair reputation for being dull and depressing, Sharkskin is the contrary to this general stereotype, uplifting a decor into a contemporary haven of chic style.

Most room inspiration trends follow the formula that grey is predominantly a base tone. However, for this article we are showcasing just how multifaceted Sharkskin is by incorporating it with a smorgasbord of colour, and using this trendy grey as an accent shade.

To style our proposed room design ideas, your walls will need to be painted with a healthy dose of Dusty Cedar. Thanks to Sharkskin’s versatility, paint is preferential to wallpaper, giving you the option to easily recolour your walls with another of Pantone’s tones at a later stage if you desire. This feminine shade of pink creates a sense of balance when contrasted with Sharkskin’s cold neutrality, restoring a harmonious balance between soft and hard colours.

We love combining the two starkest contrasts in the autumn/winter palette, because they work astoundingly well together. Bodacious is the brash yet sophisticated shade of purple which you could be forgiven for thinking would look awful when paired with Sharkskin. This is not the case. This rich purple hue is the ideal accent colour to accompany a grey tone, making for a quirky focal point in a room. For this reason, we suggest investing in a sofa in a fun shade of Bodacious; place this piece of furniture in the middle of your living room to act as the eye-catching centrepiece in your decor.

Pair this with a rug in Sharkskin to set off the contrast. By placing a Sharkskin rug close to the sofa it will also draw ones attention to the true magnificence of this grey shade, as will adding a chair or two in metallic grey. This is the perfect way to add a modern slant to your Sharkskin decor, avoiding the classic kitsch look that comes with an abundance of pink shades.

Grey curtains enhance the contemporary edge, especially checked prints that feature various different shades. An ideal example of this is Prestigious Bosforo Luxe, which is a checked pattern that incorporates several modish tones of grey and adds diversity to any room in the home, particularly within motifs as eclectic as this. A chrome lightshade is a final touch of ultra-modern charm that will root your interior firmly in the 21st century.

Bedeck your sofa wish a varied collection of cushions in an assortment of colours. Spicy Mustard is an optimistic accompaniment to Bodacious, as well as being another unlikely complement to Sharkskin. Our interior stylists suggest cushions made from Prestigious Chic Glit to make a sunny statement. To match your curtains, you can also order cushions in Prestigious Bosforo Saffron, which includes the same checked pattern.

To complete the motif, add some Sharkskin-shaded cushions like Touched by Design Accent Dove, which juxtapose beautifully with these yellows, as will the inclusion of a Lush Meadow tone to add an organic lilt.
